The terms on which Rippex Card Vault buys cards outright, rather than selling them on your behalf.
For these Terms:
A QuickOffer is us buying your cards from you. It is not consignment. If you accept, we own the cards and you are paid a fixed amount that does not depend on what we later sell them for. We may sell them for more than we paid you, or for less; either way the amount you receive is the amount stated in the Offer.
Every Offer is made on individual cards, each with its own price. You are free to accept some and decline others.
An Offer is an offer to buy, not an obligation on you to sell. Doing nothing is a valid response.
QuickOffer is for cards with individual value: autographs, numbered and low print-run cards, notable rookies and graded cards, and the like. We do not buy base cards or bulk common cards, and submissions made up of them will normally be declined. If you are unsure whether a card qualifies, send it - asking costs nothing.
Each price is set by a member of our team looking at the card, or at the photographs and details you have provided. We form a view of what the card is worth, from recent sales of comparable cards, its condition and current demand, and the price we offer is a percentage of that value. The percentage is not fixed and varies from card to card with its value and demand. Prices are not generated automatically and are not tied to any published index or guide.
An Offer states the price for each card, the total if you accept all of them, and the date and time the Offer closes. Unless we say otherwise, an Offer is open for 48 hours from the time we send it.
Where we make an Offer on cards you have not yet sent us, the Offer is based on the photographs and information you provided and holds provided the cards are as described when they reach us. Section 8 covers what happens if they are not.
We may withdraw an Offer at any time before you accept it. If we do, nothing changes for you and nothing is recorded against you.
You accept an Offer by selecting the cards you wish to sell and confirming, using the link we send you. Accepting forms a contract between you and RCV for those cards at those prices, subject to section 5.
You may decline the whole Offer, or simply let it close. Declining costs you nothing, is not recorded against you, and does not affect any other arrangement you have with us.
Once you have answered an Offer, that answer is final for that Offer. If you change your mind, contact us and we will make a fresh Offer if we are still interested.
The cards remain your property until we have paid you for them. Ownership passes to RCV at the moment we send payment, and not before. This applies whatever else these Terms say and whatever stage the arrangement has reached.
This is deliberate. It means you are never in the position of having sold a card you have not been paid for, and it means we never hold cards we own but have not paid for. Section 17 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 allows the parties to a sale to fix the moment ownership passes, and this section is us fixing it.
Until we pay, any cards of yours that we are already holding continue to be held on the terms they were already held under - under the Consignment Terms if they came to us on consignment, and otherwise as your property in our safekeeping.
We aim to pay within 24 hours of holding everything we need: your acceptance, your Payout Details, and - where the cards were not already with us - the cards themselves. We always pay within 3 working days of holding all of them.
Where you accepted an Offer on cards you still had, that time therefore starts when your parcel reaches us and we have checked the cards against the Offer (section 4), not when you accepted. We do not pay for cards we have not received.
We pay the amount stated in the Offer for each card you accepted. There is no fee, commission or deduction of any kind on a QuickOffer.
We pay to the Payout Details you give us. It is your responsibility to give us correct details; we are not liable for a payment correctly sent to an account you told us to use.
If you accept an Offer but we do not receive your Payout Details, we will remind you. If 30 days pass from your acceptance without us receiving them, the Offer and the contract formed by your acceptance both come to an end automatically.
If that happens, nothing is forfeited and nothing is owed in either direction. Your cards remain yours and carry on exactly as they were: on consignment if that is how they were held, or with you if you had not sent them. You are welcome to contact us afterwards and we will look at making a fresh Offer.
We do not acquire your cards by your silence, and we do not charge you for an Offer that lapses.
Where an Offer covers cards not already in our possession, you send them to us after accepting, at your own cost and by a carrier of your choosing. We will confirm the address. We recommend a tracked, insured service, because the cards remain yours until we pay for them.
We check each card on arrival against the Offer. If a card is materially different from what was described or photographed - a different card, a different grade, or damage not visible in the photographs - we will tell you and offer you a choice: a revised price for that card, which you are free to accept or decline, or the card returned to you at our cost. We will not simply pay you less than the Offer without your agreement.
Cards you send remain your property throughout, including while in transit and while with us, until we pay for them under section 5.
By accepting an Offer you confirm that you own the cards or have the authority of the owner to sell them, and that they are not subject to any charge, dispute or claim.
We may decline to complete a purchase, and may return cards to you, where we cannot reasonably establish ownership, authenticity or legality. Where we do, we will explain why and return the cards at our cost.
If your cards are with us on consignment, we may make you a QuickOffer on any of them at any time. This is a feature of consigning with us, not a change to your consignment.
You are under no obligation to accept, and declining has no effect of any kind on your consignment: the cards carry on being sold on your behalf under the Consignment Terms exactly as before, on the same fee, at the same stage, with nothing recorded against you.
Where you do accept, the cards you sold come off your consignment on the day we pay you. No consignment fee is charged on them, because they were not sold on your behalf - we bought them.
While you are considering an Offer, we hold the cards it covers rather than listing them for sale, so that a card cannot be sold on your behalf and bought by us at the same time. If you decline, or the Offer closes, they return immediately to the stage they were at.
Because ownership does not pass until we pay (section 5), you may change your mind at any time before payment is sent. Tell us and we will not proceed, and there is nothing to unwind. You will not be charged and nothing will be recorded against you.
Once we have paid, the sale is complete and the cards are ours. If you believe a payment has been made in error, contact us and we will look at it.
We use your information only to administer the Offer and any resulting purchase, to communicate with you, and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations - including the records HMRC requires us to keep of second-hand goods we buy, which include your name and address.
Our Privacy Notice sets out how we handle your information in full.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Where cards are in our possession, we are responsible for them as bailee and will take reasonable care of them.
Where you send cards to us, the cost of sending and the choice of carrier are yours, and any loss or damage in transit is at your risk. We recommend a tracked, insured service.
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
If something has gone wrong, email support@rippex.co.uk and we will try to sort it out directly before anything more formal.
We may update these Terms. The version that applies to an Offer is the version in force when you accept it, and the version you accepted is recorded against your acceptance. A later change never applies backwards to an Offer you have already accepted.
